A man has been arrested after trying to shoot Argentina's vice president and former president de Kirchner at point-blank range outside her home in Buenos Aires on Thursday.
A man in the crowd steps forward, points a gun at Fernández de Kirchner's face and tries to shoot him.
After a few seconds of confusion and panic, the assailant was taken into custody.
Argentina's security ministry said the weapon used in the incident was a .380 revolver with bullets inside.
"Cristina is still alive because - for some reason we cannot technically confirm at the moment - the weapon, was armed with five bullets, did not fire even when the trigger was pulled,"
He called the assassination attempt an attack on democracy, adding, "We must eradicate hatred and violence from our media and political discourse."
