The Tennessee man accused of murdering his bride while they were on their honeymoon at an upscale Fiji resort appeared in court on Wednesday.
Dawson, was charged with murder in July after Fijian police found his wife, 39-year Chen, brutally beaten to death in a cottage at the Turtle Island resort on his own private island.
At the time of his arrest, police found more than $1,000 in cash in his wallet, his passport, driver's license and credit cards belonging to himself and his deceased wife.
Prosecutors stated in court that Chen died of a "cerebral haemorrhage" on July 9, validating the accusations of Chen's family lawyers.
Dawson has pleaded not guilty and his defense lawyer Iqbal Khan is contesting Dawson's unsigned statements to police, known in Fiji as a "caution interview".
His lawyer asked the judge to grant bail based on details including health concerns and his mother's financial dependence on him.
